How do I choose a doula?

When choosing a doula try to find 2 or 3 doulas working in your area and arrange to meet them all if possible or have a chat with them on the telephone or online via Skype.

You can enquire before you are pregnant, after your due date and any time in between!

On a practical level you will want to know a bit more about her credentials. Is she formally accredited? What experience does she have both personally and as a doula. You might like to ask for references or talk to previous clients. Ensure she is who she says she is – check contact numbers and addresses are valid.

Doula UK have a list of potential questions to ask a Birth Doula which can be found on the link below:

The most important part of achieving the birth you desire, is that you feel safe, relaxed and are surrounded by people you trust. With this in mind arguably the most important thing about choosing your doula, it that your instinct tells you she is ‘the one’. You need to ‘click’. This is why meeting or at least speaking to more than one doula is important.

If you would like to meet me please feel free to get in touch and I can also help you to find other doulas covering your area.
